Grocery Delivery & Curbside Services in Lafayette, Indiana

The Lafayette and West Lafayette communities have several excellent options for grocery delivery and curbside pick up services, making life so much easier for expectant families and families with new little ones. Here's the rundown, from the big box stores all the way down to local producers.

Please note: because of COVID-19, same day pick up is generally not available at any curbside pick up store here.

1) The Pay Less (Kroger) Stores PickUp Service ~ Pay Less was one of the first stores in the area to offer curbside pick up and there are so many reasons to love it! It is available at all Lafayette and West Lafayette locations. There's a $4.95 shopping charge (although this is often waived for your first three times using the service). I believe this is waived through the Corona Virus situation. You can easily browse groceries on your phone via the app or the computer via their site. Their prices reflect advertised store sales, which means you can get some killer deals, and planning is simple. If they do not have what you ordered and another brand is available, they will offer you that product as a substitution... still honoring the quoted price online. This means that yours truly once got a giant pack of Pampers diapers for the price of the Luvs box she ordered and were out of stock.

You can order same day pickup, although the last pick up is from 7-8 and your order must be at least 4 hours from pick up time. You can order up to three days in advance.

Picking up is easy! You drive into a designated spot, call an easily accessed number, tell them who you are, and they bring your groceries out to the car and load them up for you. They do accept paper coupons, but they prefer you tell them when you call that you've got them. No tip is required.  I come pretty close to tears of gratitude every time I don't have to unload children and trek through the store and stand in line, though. ;)

2) Wal-Mart Curbside Pick Up ~ This is available at all three Wal-Mart stores in our area. This service is free, although there's a $30 minimum order. No tipping with them, either, and your pickup can go a little bit faster because you can check in on your phone when you leave home and they'll be notified as soon as you pull up. I do not believe you can use paper coupons, but they have excellent sale prices online. They also have the same guarantee for a better product at the same price if they are out of what you ordered online. Like my Pampers at Pay Less, I got a double pack of Emergen-C for the price of one pack thanks to this policy. Sometimes there are no substitutes, but you can review your completed order online before pickup. SNAP & EBT can be used for curbside pick up at the West Lafayette location.

They also offer same day pick up, but it is helpful to check the app early in the morning before all the slots fill. It depends on the number of orders they've gotten for the day and there's no way of really knowing until you look at the options on the app.

Since Wal-Mart has a more extensive collection of home goods items, this is a great way to add things like school & office supplies, some small kitchen appliances, cooking ware, etc.

They've recently added delivery service! You can pay a monthly fee for unlimited deliveries or per delivery.

3) Aldi, Sams, Fresh Thyme, and CVS Delivery ~ Yes, really, this is a thing! All the heart eyes. InstaCart offers this service, and it is raw-ther dreamy. You can shop from the app, chat with your shopper while they're at the store ("they're out of green bananas? would you like yellow or none at all?"), and then have someone bring them to your house.

Without a membership, delivery is $3.99 per store ($35 minimum order), plus there's a small service fee, and you are tipping the delivery person. Their sales also do not reflect store sales; they have some of their own that are pretty spectacular, but sometimes their prices are a bit higher. Because of the additional fees, you will most likely end up paying  a bit more than using curbside pick up, but this can be well worth it in some cases (single or no car family, sick baby and parents who don't want to leave the house, out of town family coming and so much planning to do... we all know the drill!). You can get the delivery and service fee waived by signing up for their $99 membership.

Getting it delivered the same day is pretty easy most of the time, although I've had some orders delayed a bit.

4) Market Wagon Online Farmers Market ~ I love this service! You can shop via the website or their app, and they feature local producers: eggs, dairy, yogurts, sooo much delicious produce, soaps, ready made meals, treats, lotions…

With their service, you order by Tuesday and then the order is delivered on Thursday. You can choose for it to be delivered to one of two locations (one near Purdue and one in central Lafayette) on Thursday... or you can pay $5.95 for home delivery. For $14.95/month or $149 a year, you can get free home delivery any week you order.

Because so many producers are local, natural growers you can expect to pay more than grocery store prices on some products, but you are *definitely* getting an excellent product.

5) Green Bean Delivery ~ This is another organic and natural foods home delivery service ~ they used to specialize in produce, but they have branched out to several different products. They offer a subscription service and allow you to more customized orders. They do weekly deliveries and you can customize your order up until the morning of delivery, plus skip deliveries if needed. Some of their costs will be higher than grocery store curbside pick up prices, of course, but the convenience factor is *huge* and can make a big difference to familial sanity.

6) Target Drive Up Service & Same Day Delivery ~ this is the only one I don't have personal experience with, but I've heard rave reviews from friends. I don't believe they allow for cold groceries but, like Wal-Mart, you have a wider range of home goods options to shop for and get delivered to your car. The service is also free. :) Unfortunately, I don't think you can add a Starbucks drink to your order.... They recently added same day delivery through Shipt, although it's not available to all Lafayette zip codes.

7) Meijer Delivery & Curbside pickup ~ Meijer offers home delivery (9.95) and curbside pick up (4.95). They honor their sales ad prices, too, which makes it easier to shop and snag deals. :)  They do not deliver to all Lafayette zip codes yet either and I haven't had a chance to personally try their curbside pick up yet, but I'm excited to try!

Whew. Let's just say the grocery scene has changed considerably (and for the better!) since my firstborn came along, over 9 years ago. These services make such a big difference for our family's schedule and help me meal plan more efficiently... being able to order groceries while nursing a little one and knowing that we can just pick them up later (or that someone will bring them to us!) really is a game changer for family life.
