Delayed Bathing For Infants Tied to Breastfeeding Success

Recent research suggests that delaying a newborns’ first bath at least 12 hours significantly increases the odds of breastfeeding success in the early days.

The study was done at Cleveland Clinic, and these are the results they noticed:

“In-hospital exclusive breastfeeding rates in the delayed-bath group of mom-baby pairs shot up from 59.8 percent before the intervention to 68.2 percent after the intervention.”

That is an amazing leap in numbers over something so, so very simple to implement and establish.

What I find fascinating is that the study was triggered by women coming into the hospital requesting this in their birth plans after talking to other women and researching online. What a tremendous way to self advocate for yourself and your baby! And major kudos to the hospital for listening to their clients and taking the time and effort to investigate the issue In such a rigorous, unbiased fashion!
